PILATES
Mat Pilates
Mat Pilates is based on a set of floor-based exercises designed to improve core function through developing the deep postural and stability muscles, combined with breathing and correct spinal and pelvic alignment. Scientific research shows Pilates can reduce pain and improve physical function, movement and wellbeing.
There are lots of different styles of Pilates. My classes are based on the APPI (Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute) Method, which is a modified Pilates technique specially developed for rehabilitation. It is suitable for all ages and levels of ability - whether you are recovering from injury or simply want to get fitter to improve your daily function.
Standing Pilates
Standing Pilates is performed in a standing position with all the benefits of mat Pilates. The exercises are designed to improve balance, bone health, strength and coordination. They retrain functional movement patterns, giving confidence for everyday activities. We sometimes use a chair, resistance band or ball/cushion to add variety and assist or challenge the body. Suitable for those who find it difficult to get on and off the floor.
Private classes
If you are new to Pilates, private 1-2-1 or small group classes are a great way to start and build your confidence. You will learn all about Pilates breathing, alignment and centring. Classes will be tailored to your specific goals and abilities, with a mixture of standing and mat exercises and small equipment such as a resistance band, towel or cushion to challenge your strength, balance and control.
Private classes are flexible to fit in with your schedule.
